Academic Library Section - Sponsored Speaker

Hope you will be joing us soon at the 2010 KLA/KSMA Joint Conference (Sept. 15-18, 2010)!

Among the many excellent sessions at the conference is a session to be presented by the Academic Library Section's sponsored speaker, Juliane Schnieder, from the Harvard School of Medicine. Details of the session are featured below:

Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 , 3:10 – 4:00 P.M.
WHAT IS THAT METADATA LIBRARIAN DOING, AND
HOW DID SHE GET THERE?
Juliane Schneider, Harvard School of Medicine
Sponsored by the Academic Library Section
The recent emergence of the title of Metadata Librarian can fall under any
number of job descriptions. Ms. Schneider will talk about how metadata
functions at the Harvard School of Medicine and how she created a
consultant-like position that interacts with three separate entities (the library,
the archives, and the bioinformatics group). She will also discuss her
current projects, including DSpace management for the archives, an autism
ontology project for the bioinformatics group, and the challenges of digitizing
and describing a fragile library collection that is being moved into storage.
