The Higher Learning Commission is a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and their yearly conference attracts 3,500 administrators and faculty from more than 800 institutions. ACRL's programs tied into the conference theme "The Future-Focused Organization: 2016-Ready or Not?" by examining future-focused issues such as learning spaces, scholarly communication, and planning the library of the future. The following programs were presented by ACRL members from March 31-April 4, 2006:
* "Libraries Unbundled," by Wendy Pradt Lougee, University of Minnesota
* "Planning Student Centered Libraries in a High-Tech Environment," by Harold B. Shill, Penn State Harrisburg
* "Risky Business: The Future of Scholarly Communication," by Mary Case, University of Illinois at Chicago and Mary Ellen Davis, ACRL
* "Enriching the Academic Experience through Research-Based Learning," by Elizabeth A. Dupuis, University of California, Berkeley
