Apply by Dec. 1 to receive $5,000 award for excellence in library programming



The ALA Public Programs Office is now accepting nominations for the ALA Excellence in Library Programming Award, sponsored by the ALA Cultural Communities Fund. The award will recognize a library that demonstrates excellence in library programming by developing and presenting a cultural or thematic program or program series during the previous year (September 1, 2011 - August 31, 2012). The Award consists of $5,000 and a citation of achievement, to be presented during the ALA Award Presentation at the 2013 ALA Annual Conference.  Applications and award guidelines are available at http://www.ala.org/programming/programmingexcellence. To be considered, nominations must be received by December 1.

In recognition that programming is an essential part of service delivery in  all types of libraries, school, public, academic, and special libraries are all eligible. The nominated program/series must have been for a public audience.The nominated cultural/thematic program should be one that features the humanities, sciences, arts, creative arts, community and civic engagement programs, as well as programs in conjunction with exhibitions, community-wide reading programs, or other community-wide programs. The nominated program should have engaged the community in planning, sponsorship and/or active participation, addressed an identified community need, and have had a measurable impact.

Kentucky Library Association 2012 Awards


The Kentucky Library Association is now accepting nominations for the following awards:

WILLIAM H. NATCHER AWARD

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

JAMES A NELSON ADVOCACY AWARD

CAROL J. PARRIS MENTORING AWARD

KENTUCKY INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM AWARD

The Award(s) (a plaque from the Association) will be presented during the KLA/KSMA joint conference during the Awards Luncheon on Thursday, September20, 2012.

KLA Awards

It's time once again to nominate a colleague for an annual KLA award. KLA members will receive a mailing including nomination forms for these awards as well as the proposed slate of officers and ALA Councilor, but please consider taking advantage of this advance notice and get your vote in early!

There are four awards this year: The Lifetime Achievement Award; the Carol J. Parris Mentoring Award; the James A. Nelson Library Advocate Award; and the William H. Natcher Award. Simply full out the forms along with your letter of recommendation and return them no later than Monday, August 16th to Linda Kompanik:

KLA Lifetime Achievement Award:

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to a Kentucky librarian who has contributed significantly to our profession through publications, presentations, and participation in professional library and/or information organizations. Nominees must be or have been a KLA member for 10 years, have a sustained record of service to the Association, and cannot be a current Executive Board member of the Association.


KLA William H. Natcher Award:
The William H. Natcher Award will be given to an individual, organization, or corporation that has made a significant philanthropic contribution to a Kentucky library. The contribution may be monetary or equipment.


KLA Carol J. Parris Mentoring Award:
The Carol J. Parris Mentoring Award recognizes an individual who has mentored one or more Kentucky Librarian or library worker. This mentoring could have occurred in an academic, personal, or work environment.

KLA James A. Nelson Library Advocacy Award:
The James A. Nelson Library Advocacy Award honors an individual who has been a strong advocate for a library or libraries on a local, regional, state or national level. The nominee may or may not be a librarian.
