LITA Forum 2013 (held in Louisville) Call for Proposals

LITA (Library Information Technology Association) is seeking proposals for high quality full-day pre-conferences, 50-minute concurrent sessions and poster sessions for its 2013 Forum, which will take place in Louisville, November 7-10, 2013.

The forum committee is particularly interested in submissions from first time presenters, library school students, and individuals from diverse backgrounds, including representatives from all types of libraries. Please share with your students and colleagues.

Due date for proposals: February 25, 2013

Theme: Creation, Collaboration, Community

Proposals should relate to the themes of creation, empowering library users, collaboration, cooperation, and building or engaging communities. Proposals may cover projects, plans, ideas, or recent discoveries. We accept proposals on any aspect of library and information technology.

The Forum Committee is especially interested in presentations highlighting projects that involve the creation of library spaces, the maker movement, and innovative solutions to pragmatic problems. It also encourages sessions that are hands-on.

Possible ideas for topics might include:

Maker spaces/Maker Movement

Creation of New Library Spaces

Data Curation

Discovery

User Experience

Web Services

Coding

Digital Libraries

Institutional Repositories

The format of the presentations may include single- or multi-speaker formats, panel discussions, moderated discussions, case studies and/or demonstrations of projects.

Vendors wishing to submit a proposal should partner with a library representative who is testing/using the product.

Presenters will submit draft presentation slides and/or handouts on ALA Connect in advance of the Forum and will submit final presentation slides or electronic content (video, audio, etc.) to be made available on the web site following the event. Presenters are expected to register and participate in the Forum as attendees; discounted registration will be offered.

Meeting Challenges, Leading Change:  Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians 2013 Conference

Description: Many and great are the challenges faced by technical services librarians:  increasing costs of library resources, shrinking budgets, implementation of new cataloging rules, changes in technology, staff training, preserving materials, and digitization. Yet technical services librarian meet these challenges head-on, leading their libraries in creating innovative services for the information needs of library users. You are cordially invited to come and share with other how you are meeting challenges and leading change at your library.

Proposal Information: The Conference Program Committee invites forward thinking submissions in all areas related to technical services librarianship: acquisitions, cataloging, serials, electronic resources, and preservation in academic, public, and special libraries. Participants are strongly encouraged to think about the challenges we face, how we are meeting those challenges, and how we are leaders of change within technical services and in our libraries as a whole. Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:

Participants are invited to submit proposals that address emerging trends, report on recent research, or demonstrate new services, projects, and tools.Time slots for all sessions are 50 minutes in length; this time includes the presentation itself and questions from the audience. Submissions will also be accepted for lightning rounds and round tables.
