Assistant Professor/Librarian at WKU-Owensboro



Western Kentucky University, Owensboro Regional Campus, is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor/Librarian in the Department of Library Public Services. This position is located on the Owensboro Campus. This is a ten-month, tenure-eligible faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position begins on July 1, 2013.

WKU-Owensboro (WKU-O) enrolls approximately 1200 students and employs over 80 faculty and staff members. The WKU-O campus, approximately 70 miles from the main campus in Bowling Green, offers a wide variety of degree programs and serves the western Kentucky and southern Indiana area. With a population of 58,000, Owensboro sits on the south shore of the Ohio River and is located in Daviess County.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs. All tenure-eligible positions involve, in addition to regular job duties, assigned committee work and  research/publishing.


  • Supervise and manage the WKU-Owensboro Campus Library services, material, and personnel, including student assistants

  • Provide reference service, research instruction (primarily on using online databases), and library orientation to WKU-O faculty and students

  • Do collection development for the undergraduate and graduate programs offered at WKU-Owensboro and for assigned areas of the main campus library

  • Serve as liaison to main campus academic departments

  • Work with the Extended Library and Off-Campus Services Librarian to assure quality service to the WKU-O students


NOTE: This position requires regular, periodic travel between Owensboro and the main campus in Bowling Green.

Required Qualifications


  • ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library or Information Science, plus a subject Master's, specialist, or other advanced degree

  • Prior library experience in a professional position

  • Recent experience with various instructional technologies and digital resources in a library setting

  • Experience providing reference services and instruction

  • Ability to meet the promotion and tenure criteria of the Department
