*Speaker Bios:*

*Stephanie Nicely Ake*n has served as the Head of Electronic Resources at
the Univ. of Kentucky since that position was established in 2005. Previously, she was the Head of Reference and Instruction at the Medical
Center Library (MCL) for 25 yrs., and she remains a member of the Medical Library Asso. as well as the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) at the Distinguished level. While still at the MCL, she became interested in the new electronic format for journals, especially because of the demand from the healthcare community, and she set up and managed several early linkresolvers for various individual database platforms. As the number and sources of eJournals rose exponentially, she worked with a small campus committee to develop the hugely popular eJournals (EJAG) database. Once Kentucky signed a contract with Ex Libris, however, the data was migrated over to SFX, the linkresolver that remains in use today, and which now also includes eBooks. Stephanie taught in the SLIS program at UK for ten years (beginning and advanced online searching courses) and founded, then chaired the Central and Eastern Kentucky Online Users Group C/EKOUG. Prior to moving back to Lexington in 1979, she was the Head of Instruction, Circulation, & ILL at the Rowland Medical Library in Jackson, MS and created the role of clinical librarian for the orthopaedics department. She has served on the editorial board of the Journal of the Medical Library Association (JMLA) for many years and has developed and taught MLA-approved workshops on literature searching and on electronic resources.

*Kathryn Lybarger *is the Head of Cataloging and Metadata at the University
of Kentucky Libraries, where she has worked as a librarian since 2009. Her research interests in libraries include metadata of all sorts
(including traditional cataloging and fancy new standards), preservation, digitization, and automation / computer-assisted workflows.

*Kimberly Mastrianni* has been employed with LexisNexis Matthew Bender for
15 years. She has held various positions in the company, but her current role is as Large Law Print Specialist. Her expertise is Matthew Bender
Treatises and statutory content and current focus is on eBooks and Digital Libraries.

*Cathy Howell* is the Technical Services Manager at the Lexington Public
Library, where she has worked since 2000.  Cathy has worked in a number of public settings for over 30 years specializing in Cataloging, Acquisitions,
Interlibrary Loan and most recently the acquisition and collection development of ebooks.

LLAMA Mentoring Committee Invitation

Dear ALA Members:

The LLAMA Mentoring Committee has begun recruiting mentors and mentees for our July 2013-June 2014 year.  The mentoring program pairs librarians who are currently in leadership positions with librarians who are interested in becoming leaders.

For mentors, it is a chance to pass on your experience and knowledge by working one-on-one with an enthusiastic colleague who is ready to learn and benefit from your experience.

For mentees, it is a great opportunity to learn from an accomplished leader how to:
*         explore your leadership potential
*         demonstrate leadership in your current position
*         acquire the skills, attitudes and relationships that you will need to move into leadership roles.

Participants must be ALA and LLAMA members as of the start of the program, and must either attend the Mentor/Mentee orientation at ALA Annual or be able to participate in a virtual orientation at a time to be determined.

The deadline to apply to become a mentor or mentee is December 21, 2012. To apply, go to

For more information on the program, contact Holly Cole Okuhara.

Thank you,

Bede Mitchell, Melissa Laning, and Brook Minner, LLAMA Mentoring Committee members
